Several funding routes are available to companies for research and development: the federal government’s research tax allowance (for R&D staff costs, regardless of company size), open-topic grant programmes such as the Central Innovation Programme for SMEs (ZIM), and EU funding from Horizon Europe, the EU’s central framework programme for research and innovation. Some of these can be combined, but they differ considerably in terms of funding rates, application procedures and deadlines. The Funding Team supports research and development projects as one of its five key focus areas and has supported R&D projects in collaboration with, amongst others, the Fraunhofer IPK, the London School of Economics and the Polytechnic University of Catalonia.
